What is the Center of Excellence-Accessibility?

With its inaugural center of excellence, IDI is taking an innovative approach to what it means to be a center of excellence. With the Center of Excellence-Accessibility (CoE-A), IDI strives to establish a comprehensive resource center that acts as a centralized platform for research, training, and collaboration and brings together persons with disabilities, organizations for persons with disabilities, disability experts, policymakers, and the general public to foster partnerships, cross-cutting dialogue, and knowledge exchange.

From policy recommendations to implementing development projects, we envision the CoE-A as a space for creating innovative new approaches to addressing disability and accessibility issues made possible by collaboration between vested stakeholders. In the long-term, the CoE-A hopes to be a platform where anyone looking to get involved with the disability and accessibility sectors in whatever capacity, big or small, is able to access the necessary resources and connections.

Our Vision

IDI aims to create a network of diverse actors dedicated to creating innovative and equitable solutions to disability and accessibility issues. The Center of Excellence-Accessibility is a space where the general public can augment their understanding of accessibility matters, experts can come together to share their research, and policymakers can gain critical insight to inform their decision-making. IDI envisions the Center of Excellence-Accessibility to be the leading hub for collaboration, innovative project development, idea sharing, and informed dialogue in the disability and accessibility sectors.

Why This Work Matters

Everyday, persons with disabilities are faced with numerous challenges and obstacles in their personal and professional lives due to inaccessible social, cultural, infrastructural, and economic frameworks that have created a status quo where disabled people are unable to enjoy the same opportunities are their non-disabled counterparts equally and equitably. Recognizing this, IDI set out to create a platform dedicated to advancing the realities of persons with disabilities. The Center of Excellence-Accessibility (CoE-A) aims to be a catalyst for furthering inclusiveness and equity regarding disability issues within different sectors while simultaneously empowering individuals with disabilities.

The CoE-A is a hub for specialized knowledge and has been created with the goal of providing targeted assistance, resources, and advocacy for persons with disabilities. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, the CoE-A hopes to play a significant role in dismantling obstacles to the full and active engagement of persons with disabilities in both personal and professional spheres. Through the CoE-A, IDI aspires to facilitate inclusive policymaking, equitable program implementation, and empowering advocacy movements in pursuit of creating a more inclusive society that embraces diversity.
